How to Specify the exact time (hour) to run a backup on cPanel server?

By default, backup script runs at 1:00AM on the server but you can also set your own custom time to finish backups before peak traffic resumes.

There are two ways to change exact time (hour) to run a backup on cPanel server –

1) Using command line.
2) Through WHM.

To change backup time of the server, you will need to do SSH. Once done then fire below command on the server :-

crontab -l -u root

Above command will show you all cronjobs setup for root user ont the server.

To edit cronjobs for root user, you will need to fire below command –

Search for below two line and set your custom time –

0 1 * * * /usr/local/cpanel/scripts/cpbackup
0 2 * * * /usr/local/cpanel/bin/backup

In above example, cpbackup script will run at 1:00AM and backup script will run at 2:00AM.

2) Using WHM –

If you are not comfortable with option #1 then you can change time to run backup using graphical interface too.

To do so, you will need to login to WHM > Click on Configure cPanel Cron Jobs and change minute, hour, day, month and weekday as per your requirement.

That’s it!
